Klipsch Reference Over-Ear Bluetooth

January 23, 2017

Earlier this month, Klipsch's Singapore distributor launched two over-ear headphone models - the Reference Over-Ear Bluetooth and Reference Over-Ear. After two on-ear products released in late 2016, the clear trend for the Indianapolis company is an increased focus on headphones as opposed purely to in-ear products. We check out what the Bluetooth model has to offer in particular.

What's the Big Deal?
1. I'm not too familiar with Klipsch over-ears. In fact, I believe these are their first pair of headphones in this category. Feel free to comment if otherwise. If it is indeed the case, then this is in itself a point to highlight.

2. Klipsch is also increasing their emphasis on Bluetooth models for obvious reasons. After the Klipsch Image One on-ears, there came 2016 where the iPhone 7 was widely expected (and duly obliged) to remove the headphone jack. So there came the Klipsch R6 In-Ear Bluetooth and the Reference On-Ear II and now we have the Reference Over-Ear. We expect to see an increased transition for their in-ear products in 2017.

3. Klipsch Balanced Dynamic Driver (KBD)
Ok, while this term is new to me, it promises to 'decrease distortion and deliver the most authentic bass ever heard'. These headphones have 40mm drivers and aptX support, promising CD-quality audio.

4. Battery Life
The Bluetooth unit clocks up to 20 hours of battery life. You need all the juice on the road and we'd say this is a fair number to give you sufficient audio nirvana.

Pricing and Availability
The Klipsch over-ear headphones are currently selling at the following pricepoints:
- Reference Over-Ear Bluetooth Headphones - USD 299 / SGD 499
- Reference Over-Ear Headphones - USD 249 / SGD 419
