Everyone is jumping in. Sports wireless earphones are all the rage these days and no surprise there. Fueled by a few manufacturers (think Jaybird?) success in this niche, this is the holy grail for earphones.
28 Oct saw JVC entering the fray with the HA-EBT5, which they claim is a splash proof model. With 2.5 hours of charging, this gives a rather insipid 4.5 hours of playback, given the performance of the Jaybird X2 Wireless (8h) and the Jabra Sport Coach (5.5h).
What's the Big Deal?
1. IPX4 Water Resistance
Let's break down what this rating means. Apparently, the 'X' is when there is no data available to indicate a protection rating with regard to dust resistance. The '4' indicates that in terms of liquid ingress, splashing of water will have no effect. The nutshell is if the rating is correct, it's water and sweat resistant.
2. Pivot Motion Fit
JVC markets the hook that fits just above the ear canal as Pivot Motion Fit. It promises an 'ultra-secure yet comfortable fit'.
3. Ear Tips
Two sets of ear tips - regular and silicon type. We aren't too sure what is meant by regular, given that for most earphones, the default tips provided are already silicon in nature. Regardless, they provide variety and for both sets of ear tips, the S, M and L configurations are included.
4. Pricing
Damn right. It's one of the more affordable Bluetooth sports earphones in the market. Read on below.
Availability
It comes in red, black, blue and pink variants. We're checking when this will hit Singapore shelves,.
Pricing
At USD 79.95 (SGD 113), this is an agreeable price that sits nicely in the range of the Skullcandy XTfree (USD 99.99) and Plantronics BackBeat Go 2 (SGD 139).
